Welcome to A New Direction for Counseling! Established in 2005, we have been dedicated to providing exceptional mental health services to our community ever since. Our mission is simple: to meet the unique needs of each individual client with compassion, expertise, and understanding.

At A New Direction for Counseling, we specialize in offering counseling services tailored to children (ages 6 and up), adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Our goal is to partner with you and/or your family to navigate life's everyday challenges and extraordinary moments in a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

We understand that every individual and family is unique, which is why we prioritize personalized care that integrates our clinical expertise with your personal values. Our flexible scheduling options, including evening and weekend appointments, are designed to accommodate your busy life and ensure that you can access the support you need when it's most convenient for you.

Pat Kaniuga, MS, LPCC-S, is a highly skilled and dedicated licensed professional counselor, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team at A New Direction For Counseling. With a degree in Community Counseling from Wright State University, obtained in 2000, Pat is committed to providing exceptional therapeutic support to individuals seeking holistic healing and personal growth.

As the Clinical Director of A New Direction For Counseling, Pat oversees the delivery of comprehensive therapeutic services, ensuring that clients receive the highest quality of care. With her leadership, our team embraces a comprehensive approach to therapy, addressing the interconnected nature of the mind, body, and spirit.

With a profound understanding of the human condition, Pat incorporates a variety of therapeutic approaches into her practice. By integrating these approaches, she assists clients in uncovering profound insights, fostering self-awareness, and navigating their personal journeys toward self-discovery.

In addition to her holistic approach, Pat specializes in Couples and Marriage Counseling, Eating Disorders (including Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating), Anxiety, Depression, and conducting Drug and Alcohol Assessments. She understands the significance of providing a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore their challenges and find healing.

As a compassionate and empathetic counselor, Pat creates a supportive environment where clients feel heard, understood, and valued. She is committed to helping individuals and families overcome challenges, guiding them toward a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

Lisa Schauer, MS, LPCC is a compassionate and experienced Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor dedicated to guiding individuals, couples, and families through life's challenges. She earned her Master’s degree from the University of Dayton and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Wright State University, complemented by an LSW in Ohio.

With a background in community settings, Lisa has honed her skills in assisting clients with a wide array of relationship, parental, and individual struggles. Her therapeutic approach is eclectic, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and client-centered therapy. However, Lisa prioritizes tailoring her approach to meet the unique needs of each individual client.

Lisa has extensive experience working with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, anger issues, grief, trauma, domestic violence, and abuse. She believes in providing acceptance and validation for each client's experiences, recognizing their unique story and journey. Lisa fosters a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore solutions and find empowerment in navigating their challenges.

Recognizing that each client is the expert on themselves, Lisa sees her role as providing support and guidance as clients explore different paths towards healing and growth. She understands the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance and ensures that clients feel comfortable and respected throughout their counseling journey.

Lisa's specialties include adjustment disorders, anger management, anxiety, bipolar disorder, couples counseling, depression, divorce, domestic violence intervention, family issues, grief counseling, military/veterans support, mood disorders, OCD, occupational problems, parenting education, phobias, physical abuse, self-harming behaviors, sexual abuse recovery, stress management, trauma recovery, and women's issues.

In her spare time, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exploring nature, and engaging in creative pursuits.

MFT: Marriage and Family Therapist

Sloane Green, MA, MFT is a dedicated Marriage and Family Therapist, holding a Master’s degree from Capella University. She has pursued additional training in various therapeutic modalities, including the Gottman Method for couples, EMDR, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

With a commitment to fostering collaborative, compassionate, and safe therapeutic environments, Sloane empowers her clients to navigate their challenges and achieve their goals. She adopts a client-centered approach, leveraging their strengths and resources to facilitate growth and healing.

Sloane's therapeutic toolbox includes narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and emotionally focused therapy techniques, tailored to meet the unique needs and objectives of each client. Whether working with individuals, couples, or families, Sloane utilizes systemic principles to address a range of issues.

Her areas of special interest encompass anxiety, depression, eating disorders, young adults, couples and relationship dynamics, infidelity and trust rebuilding, attachment issues, grief, and LGBTQ+ affirming therapy. Under the supervision of Patricia, Sloane is committed to providing compassionate and effective therapy to those she serves.

Stevie Lamblin, MS, LPC, hailing from Dayton, Ohio, is a dedicated mental health professional with a passion for understanding and supporting diverse populations. She earned her B.S. in Psychology in 2016 and furthered her education with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wright State University in 2019.

Her professional interests are wide-ranging, encompassing relationship dynamics, intimate partner violence, LGBTQ+ issues, sexual disorders, personality disorders, body-focused repetitive behaviors, eating disorders, and emotional processing related to anxiety and depression. Stevie's approach to therapy is adaptable and eclectic, ensuring that clients from all walks of life feel welcomed and understood.

In addition to her work in mental health, Stevie is a professional dancer with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, boasting 21 years of dance experience. For the past 6 years, she has also shared her expertise by teaching movement courses to both youth and adults. Drawing upon her deep understanding of the mind-body connection, Stevie incorporates psychoanalytic symbols and emotional expression into her therapeutic approach. This unique perspective empowers clients to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their behaviors.

Stevie's ultimate goal is to help clients find their unique "lens," providing clarity and reducing undesirable symptoms in their lives. Just as someone without the right prescription glasses may stumble, she believes that with the right support, individuals can navigate life's challenges with confidence and grace.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Stevie finds joy in dancing, writing poetry, exploring scholarly articles, and spending quality time with close friends during late-night conversations.

Christina Veness, MS, LPC, is a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Her expertise lies in providing support and guidance to individuals facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, stress management, and childhood and adolescent issues.

Christina's therapeutic approach is rooted in evidence-based practices, drawing upon modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions. By tailoring her approach to meet the unique needs of each client, Christina empowers individuals to overcome obstacles, foster resilience, and achieve their goals.

With a commitment to ongoing growth and development, Christina stays informed about the latest research and best practices in the field of counseling. She is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

In her free time, Christina enjoys spending time outdoors, practicing mindfulness, and engaging in creative pursuits. She is grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of her clients and looks forward to supporting them on their journey towards healing and personal growth.
